The Konzerthaus is the most recent building on the Gendarmenmarkt. It was built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel in 1821 as the Schauspielhaus. It was based on the ruins of the National Theatre, which was destroyed by fire in 1817. Parts of the building contain columns and some outside walls from the destroyed National Theatre.

The Waldbühne was built by using the glacial river banks of the Berlin glacial valley. It is a reproduction of the old theater of Epidaurus (3rd century BC). Today, it is used as one of Europe’s biggest and most beautiful concert venues. It is claimed that the Waldbühne has one of the best views to the stage worldwide, no matter in which category your seat is located. The Waldbühne has held concerts by Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Bob Marley & The Wailers, The Rolling Stones, Jean Michel Jarre, Depeche Mode, Céline Dion, P!nk, Linkin Park, Herbert Grönemeyer, Barbra Streisand, R.E.M., U2, Metallica, Queen & Paul McCartney, among others.

Berliner Philaharmoniker holds the Waldbühne concert in June every year since 1992.
