The Zentalfriedhof Friedrichsfelde in Berlin-Lichtenberg (until 1920 Berlin-Friedrichsfelde) is one of the best-known cemeteries in Berlin. It is famous for the Memorial to the socialists, a burial place for many social democratic, socialist and communist politicians and activists, including Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxemburg.

The museum is located in Building 1 of the central complex of the Ministry for State Security in Berlin-Lichtenberg. This is also where Erich Mielke, the last acting Minister for State Security, had his headquarters. You can see, amongst other things, his original preserved offices. In addition are exhibits of the activities of the State Security, and resistance and opposition in the GDR (East Germany).

The Mies van der Rohe Haus in Alt-Hohenschönhausen is the last designed family home of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in Germany before his emigration to the United States in 1938. It was built in the Bauhaus style of the early 1930s under the name Villa Lemke.

The Obersee emerged in 1895 as a water storage for the Löwenbrauerei [brewery] located at Berliner Straße. There was no digging necessary as the area previously was a natural depression. After the turn of the century the second residential colony of Hohenschönhausen was established around the area, but large parts can be walked on in a park.

The Ministry of State Security of the GDR (East Germany) had its central investigative prison from 1951 to 1989 in Berlin-Alt-Hohenschönhausen. There were primarily political prisoners jailed and tortured there,physically and mentally. After Reunification, the buildings and equipment were almost left in their original condition. So in 1994, a memorial was set up. Former prisoners and guides take visitors through the various buildings.
